IQPC Process Excellence Awards go to LSG Sky Chefs
Neu-Isenburg, Germany – LSG Sky Chefs has been recognized with the renowned International Quality and Productivity Center (IQPC) Process Excellence Award for the "Best Green Improvement Project" at the 11th Annual Process Excellence Summit. Additionally, the company earned an honorary mention award in the "Best Start-up Program" category.
A total of 38 finalist companies in seven categories were preselected by the jury, which included some of the most experienced professionals within the Lean, Six Sigma and Process Excellence community.
LSG Sky Chefs received the Best Green Improvement Project award in recognition of its successful global implementation of a dishwashing process optimization. Being one of the major activities inside LSG Sky Chefs facilities (with more than two billion components washed every year including trays, glassware, cutlery and catering trolleys), the main challenge is using the dishwashers as efficiently as possible through the peak and off-peak times, depending on the pattern of the inbound flights. LSG Sky Chefs operates some 500 dishwashing machines at more than 200 facilities worldwide.
In order to optimize the processes, many solutions were implemented in different units throughout the world, and the dishwashing machines were connected to a central computer system which controlled their operation in real time. The parameters and the KPIs gained from this analysis and additional changes made are now continuously monitored and have led to significant savings in energy and water consumption.
The international in-flight services provider also received an honorary mention award ("Best Start-up Program") for its Lean Enterprise program. LSG Sky Chefs launched the Lean & Operational Excellence program in January 2008 as part of its continuous improvement process. The objective of the program was to transform the business in order to maintain the company’s position as the industry leader in service delivery and quality. It also aimed to strengthen process efficiency and employee motivation.
