Award for LSG Sky Chefs' five-star Gatwick centre

London — LSG Sky Chefs has become the only airline caterer at London-Gatwick to be awarded top marks in a prestigious and stringent food-hygiene initiative.

The Faraday Road unit, part of the UK network of the world’s largest in-flight services provider, has been awarded five stars in the ‘Scores on the Doors’ scheme operated by Crawley Borough Council in West Sussex. The initiative, which is being run by the council and a range of other local authorities across the country, seeks to inform consumers of food-hygiene standards in local businesses such as restaurants, hotels, cafes and pubs, as well as other organisations dealing with food and drink.

Environmental health officers follow a nationally agreed code of practice to award scores for food hygiene practices, the condition of the premises and management systems in place. The five-star rating is given to organisations demonstrating "very high standards of food-safety management" and which are "fully compliant with food safety legislation".

LSG Sky Chefs’ London-Gatwick customer service centre joins other group units at Cardiff and East Midlands to receive the top award.

LSG Sky Chefs’ London-Gatwick operation, which employs more than 300 people, caters for airlines including Virgin Atlantic Airways, First Choice, Thomsonfly and Emirates. It produces more than 20,000 meals a day.
