LSG Sky Chefs builds UK presence through Birmingham move

Category: 2007

LSG Sky Chefs has reinforced its position as the UK's leading in-flight services provider by taking full control of an existing joint-venture catering operation at rapidly expanding Birmingham International Airport.

The buy-out of the 50% interest held in the customer service centre by Citynet Catering establishes Birmingham as the sixth wholly owned catering facility within LSG Sky Chefs' UK network.

The Birmingham unit has experienced rapid growth since being established jointly by LSG Sky Chefs and Citynet Catering in 2003. It now employs around 85 personnel, preparing meals for an average of more than ten flights each day.

Major clients serviced from Birmingham International Airport include Air India, Air France, Thomsonfly, Thomas Cook and SN Brussels.

Dale Easdon, LSG Sky Chefs' Regional Chief Operating Officer UK, said: "Our Birmingham centre has established itself as an increasingly important part of LSG Sky Chefs' ever-expanding UK operations. We see a very promising future for Birmingham International Airport and believe we are now in the perfect position to respond to the growing demand for quality in-flight solutions."
