Facility Closure in Berlin-Tegel, Germany
Neu-Isenburg – Today, the management of LSG Sky Chefs Deutschland GmbH (LSGD) informed its Berlin-Tegel employees about the final closure of their facility on November 9, 2007. The company intends to offer all employees vacant jobs at other locations.
The management and the works council will continue negotiations about a social plan, in line with the arbitration committee.
An alternative operating model will be in place as of November 9, enabling the inflight service provider to cater the remaining customers competitively in future. This model is based on running the Berlin-Tegel operations with a small off-site team from LSG Sky Chefs in Cologne, in cooperation with two local partners in Berlin.
The LSG Sky Chefs facility in Berlin-Tegel has been accumulating losses for many years despite numerous attempts to return the business to profitability. Negotiations, together with efforts to implement alternative business models, were already declared a failure in July.
LSG Sky Chefs regret the consequences of this development for its Berlin-Tegel employees. The company will exhaust all efforts to try to find a job for every single employee of the Berlin-Tegel facility.
